We just traded in this totally upgraded, much sought-after 23-foot fishing machine – The Potter-hull SeaCraft SF23 SuperFisherman with a newer I/O Mercruiser 350 MAGNUM Freshwater Cooled engine with an Alpha I drive.
Previous owner updated the hull with fresh awlgrip paint and added a custom T-top and all the essential electronics such as the Garmin GPS 492 Color GPS and a Lowrance X-510c Fishfinder (as well as a nifty CD/Ipod/USB compatible AM/FM Stereo, VHF, Electric Windlass, LED lights, and more).
It goes without saying that the Potter-built hulls from SeaCraft almost have a cult-like following in the serious angler and sportfisherman communities worldwide. Our boat is no exception – well equipped and updated.

…All the best of what we learned from years of building the classic SF20 SportFisherman was just the starting point for the design of the SF23 SuperFisherman. She was designed to go further, faster, drier, and softer in rough seas than any other boat her size. She does.
She was designed to store more tackle, have more room for bait and catch and gear and carry her people safely and more comfortable than any other in her class. She does.
She was designed to be the best trailerable center console offshore fisherman that money can buy. She is.
SF23 can be ordered exactly the way you want her rigged to fit your style of fishing. And you are starting with a super boat with more innovative features as standard than most others offer as options. You can have her with power that will put well over fifty miles an hour under her keel and tears in your eyes if you’re not behind the windshield! She can be a compact canyon cruiser complete with outriggers, FishSpotter control tower and enough range and speed to put you over the tuna or billfish just about wherever or whenever they are. You can have a console with lockable storage or a portable head. And it’s big enough to flush mount the larger depth recorders in the teak grained panel. You can have a live well with self circulation that is large enough for live mackerels, moss bunkers or scoops of anchovies. She is the only one in her class that has twin transom ice chests in both sterndrive and outboard models.
SF23 is the ultimate fishing machine. A SuperFisherman built for superfishmen. And best of all, she is a SeaCraft.
If all things are equal in load, length, power, and seas, we believe no other boat can catch or match a SeaCraft. Any boat. The reason is SeaCraft’s hull design. SeaCrafts run with less wetted surface, thus less drag, and have more efficient hydrodynamic lift to give you a stable, soft, dry ride and sensational performance at all speeds. SeaCraft’s hull design is best described as a variable deep fee. The design is unique. So unique, in fact, that it holds U.S. Patent number 3237581. Which is why you do not see it copied by other manufacturers.
The key to SeaCraft’s design lies in the three sets of longitudinal step-panels that form the bottom. Moving outward from the keel, each set of panels has less angle, or deadrise, than the adjacent inboard panels. The keel panels have the sharpest “V” of all, to form the cutting edge that slices through the water to cushion the ride.
SeaCrafts are remarkably stable at speed or at rest. The almost flat chime panels give a great lateral stability as well as providing maximum lift for quick planing without excessive bow rise. The many keels effect of the vertical edges of the stepped panels give unsurpassed directional stability even while running in rough following seas. At top speed, the intermediate panels provide lateral stability with a small portion of the chine panels adding secondary support aft near the transom. The release step is the secret to SeaCraft’s superior ride and performance. Unlike the pressure strakes of the constant deadrise deep fee hulls, the SeaCraft steps are recessed so there are few deflecting surfaces to retard water flow. This design creates aeration which has a lubricating effect to reduce skin friction. The recessed steps also give designed-in stiffening to the hull.
Look back at your wake. At speed, a SeaCraft lays flat white streaks on the water without dragging along following wake swells. A clear indication that you don’t move much water when you move out in a SeaCraft!
That’s the straight story. The more you know about boats, the more you will appreciate the advantages of SeaCraft’s variable dedrise deep fee hull design. Remember, just because a boat is “deep fee” doesn’t guarantee the best ride. You can only get that by stepping up to a SeaCraft.
Construction to Give You Confidence
Back in the sixties, SeaCraft was schooled in superior construction by the boat-breaking brutal conflict of thousands of miles of offshore powerboat racing. Year after year and race after race, SeaCraft dominated the outboard division, often-times surpassing larger ocean racing machines with hundreds of more horsepower…. and set four world records to boot. SeaCraft earned a lot of laurels to rest upon and those hard-won lessons are reflected in the quality seaworthy construction of every SeaCraft since.
All SeaCrafts are all fiberglass. Each hull is entirely hand lay-up of many laminates of mat and roving on gelcoat in highly polished molds. At critical points of keel, panel steps, chines and transom, each lamination is generously overlapped for double strength. While still in the mold, the full height and width of the transom is reinforced to two-inch thick on all boats, sterndrives or outboard. Molded fiberglass longitudinal stringers are glassed in with more layers of roving to add even greater strength and stiffness to the inherently rigid SeaCraft hull. A vee block is glassed in for stern reinforcement backing for the through-bolted stainless steel towing eye.
Molded inter liners are then glassed into the hull to virtually form a boat within a boat. For dock reinforcement, lightweight end grain balsa wood separates and soaks up wet resin from deck and backing laminates to create a super-stron deck that is nearly an inch thick without adding execs weight. Any possible stand-on surface in all SeaCrafts is patterned with molded-in non-skid for sure-footed safety.
All hatches exposed to weather are fiberglass, each with male-female edges and gutters to drain away rain or wash water. Aft through-hull cockpit drains in all models provide peace-of-mind self bailing safety tied up or running. Fuel and waterproof closed-cell polyurethane foam is sprayed into available spaces between hull and liner for floatation or superior insulating for fish boxes or storage wells.
Fuel tanks are of marine alloy aluminum. Each is pressure-tested before and after installation in a boat to insure integrity. Fuel hose fittings are double clamped with stainless steel and the entire system is electrically bonded. Tank access hatches are waterproofed with silicone sealant. SeaCraft sterndrive models are provided with fuel line shut-off valves, fuel filters, with water separators, electric bilge pumps, blowers, batteries, and a fire extinguisher.
The deck cap for each model has balsa core reinforcement and wherever bow rails, cleats, or any fixtures are to be located, backing blocks of plywood are laminated to the underside. All cabin models have nylon carpeted overheads for beauty and cozy insulation. Each cap fits down over the top edge of the hull. It is then close riveted and sealed with silicone. A heavy duty rub rail of solid vinyl or aluminum is fastened along the gunwale edges with stainless steel for full protection…. even the transom on outboard models.
All wiring is color coded and bundled with nylon ties. Each operating circuit is protected with accessible fusing at the control panel. Only the best hardware goes into a SeaCraft. The majority is Marinium, the rest either chrome on solid brass or stainless steel.
SeaCraft upholstery is of the finest quality of material, close-stitched with nylon thread. We know because we do it ourselves. If our name is on the hull, you can be sure it is a quality boat.
